When buying a new motorcycle from Tilleys Motorcycles, you’ll see the price listed as:

This page explains exactly what OTR (On The Road) means, what it includes, and why it’s required.
What Are OTR Fees?
OTR stands for On The Road — the essential preparation and legal requirements needed to get your new motorcycle ready for the road.
These are not optional extras. They are the standard costs involved in preparing, registering and legally supplying a new motorcycle in the UK.
What OTR Includes
Your OTR fee covers:

DVLA registration We register the motorcycle with the DVLA and obtain your registration number.

Number plate A road‑legal plate fitted to your motorcycle.

12 months road tax Your first year of Vehicle Excise Duty.

Full PDI (Pre‑Delivery Inspection) Our technicians carry out a full safety and quality inspection, including:

Torque checks

Fluid levels

Battery check
-
Road test
-
ECU/software updates (where applicable)

Final safety checks Ensuring your motorcycle is fully prepared and ready to ride.
Our OTR Fees
We keep our OTR fees simple and transparent:

125cc models: £150
-
125–500cc models: £200
-
700cc models: £300
These fees are paid in‑store on collection, not online.
Why OTR Isn’t Charged Online
When you buy a motorcycle on our website, you pay the bike price only.
We then contact you to confirm:

Colour choice (if applicable)

Availability Time

Preparation time
-
Collection arrangements
The OTR fee is paid when you collect the motorcycle from our shop.
This ensures:

You only pay OTR once the bike is fully prepared

No incorrect charges are applied

You have full clarity at handover
Used Motorcycles
Used motorcycles do not have OTR fees. All preparation, MOT (if due), and safety checks are included in the advertised price.
